Proper handling, storing and disposing of hazardous waste is necessary to comply with regulations and to protect human health and the environment.
Hazardous and universal wastes are materials that are no longer in use and cannot be discarded in general trash receptacles because their properties are harmful to human health or the environment. Examples include batteries, lamps, paint and solvents.
